Disclaimer:
I realize I’m ‘stereotyping’, so please refrain from mindlessly (re)informing me of this. I politely request that anyone who does answer: please have been acquainted with at least 5 Mexicans in your lifetime. ‘Defending’ (as if I were attacking in the first place) an ethnic group based on television and movies is just as much stereotyping as attacking them based on these things. Actually knowing them is what makes you credible – no matter your position.
I live in San Antonio which is about 60% Mexican, 40% white. All of my Mexican friends smoke pot on a daily basis. Some of their parents even smoke pot..whether guests are over or not. One of my Mexican friends, who was a staunch anti-drug activist until age 25, took ONE hit and turned into one of the biggest smokers I know. Still just as good of friends tho.
In their defense however, Mexicans don’t seem to smoke to get ‘Fu**ed up’ as you might imagine. They appear to better enjoy the relaxation it offers after (or during) work – without the negative side effects. They can even be completely blown in public without anyone noticing. The red glazed eyes are usually the only sign.
When white people smoke pot, they seem to throw up, fall asleep, get a headache, raid refrigerators, talk nonsense, etc. at a higher rate than Mexicans. In addition, Whites tend to have an overall more ‘antidrug’ attitude as well. The 2 may be related, but that’s beside the point. I’m just trying to illustrate the White/Mexican contrast of opinions and side effects as I see them.
There’s little if no racial tension here in San Antonio. Like I said, I have plenty of both White and Mexican friends and acquaintances on which to base this ‘stereotype’. Yes I know a few white potheads, but consider this: ‘Pothead’ wouldn’t have become associated primarily with whites if they didn’t stick out like sore thumbs when they smoked a lot of weed. (Hippy?) My point is, Mexicans buy and smoke WAY more marijuana than anyone else, but they exercise better control over it.
Everyone I grew up with has smoked pot at one point or another, including myself. Mexicans just seem more prone to falling obsessively in love with it.
LASTLY, it was in fact a Mexican that brought this to my attention in the first place, while humorously comparing it to how whites prefer meth and blacks prefer crack. I’ve met a few white meth-heads, and I’ve seen plenty of black crack-heads on COPS and YouTube. Since his joke reflected my personal observations, I couldn’t disagree .Whites aren’t the only ones who recognize racial drug preferences, and there’s nothing hateful or bigoted about it.
Crack and meth are addictive as far as I know so I’m less curious about them. Weed however supposedly isn’t. That’s why I want to know why one group in particular (Mexicans) seems so much more partial to marijuana.
Can THC have a different effect on people of Native American or Spanish ancestry?
“As for why do mexicans smoke more as compared to whites there are more mexicans in san antonio than whites.”
…… judging by the copout I take it this IS a hard question. Way to sidestep the actual percentages there Paul, as well as the ACTUAL QUESTION

Sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question, but I realized–that song!
La cucaracha, la cucaracha,
ya no puede caminar.
Porque la falta, porque la falta.
marijuana a fumar.

Really, I’m serious. I said I couldn’t answer the question. But, isn’t it curious that there is an older song from Mexico, I believe, that is about the cockroach not being able to walk because he HASN’T smoked marijuana? Is that the translation? (My Spanish is a little weak.) It was late when I first answered, but now that I had some sleep and am in my right mind (hopefully), I can explain why I answered with that song. I don’t know how old the song is, but I thot it was from way before the era of pot and free love in the 60s, am I right? My dad taught us the “other” clean version when we were young, with the last line being something about the cockroach not being able to walk because he didn’t have feet. BTW, I am half Mexican; my dad’s parents were both from Mexico. My dad was not especially ethnic, and the only thing I know about marijuana in relation to his family is that his older brother sold it in the 1940s or something. Still, the song makes you kinda wonder. Interesting.
It is cheaper than crack or meth, not habit forming or as dangerous. As for why do mexicans smoke more as compared to whites there are more mexicans in san antonio than whites. If there were more Chinese there than whites it would be logical that more Chinese would smoke more than whites.
same reason why americans love to be fat and also love to kill people.
Most of the drugs are really grown for the consumption of white americans.
